Co-Founder & CEO, Baobab Studios

Maureen is a CEO, co-founder, and board director with over 2 decades of success creating, launching, and scaling mass-market, genre-defining digital products at the edge of tech and media. As CEO and co-founder of 9-time Emmy award-winning Baobab Studios, hailed as the world’s leading independent interactive animation studio, she has propelled the mixed reality, metaverse, and web3 industries forward. Having created some of the most viewed mixed reality experiences on Oculus, she led Baobab to expand their franchiseable family IP and interactive worlds into film/TV series (Disney+, HBO Max), games (Roblox, Oculus, web3), and books (MacMillan, Penguin). Under her helm, Baobab, which was named Fast Company’s 2018 Most Innovative Company, has attracted creative luminaries, such as the Madagascar films director, the Moana producer, and the Creative Directors, lead designers of Maxis (Sims), Pokemon, and Magic: The Gathering. She has also recruited and attracted board members such as Ed Catmull (Pixar co-founder and President of Disney Feature Animation) and Kevin Lin (Twitch co-founder) and investment from Disney, Comcast, Shari Restone, Peter Chernin, and Samsung. Her products have earned her recognition as one of Ad Age’s Most Creative People of the Year, Gold House’s Top 100 Influential Asians, and Variety’s Executive to Watch and Top Digital Creative lists.

A product leader, she helped birth the social casual games revolution as Zynga’s VP of Games, overseeing the original Farmville franchise (Zynga’s largest profit center, 40% of the company’s revenues and 120mm MAU). Directly reporting to the CEO, she built and oversaw 6 game studios to release games. She was 1 of the original 5 Zynga Product Managers who defined and embodied the term “growth marketer/hacker” by instilling a modeling culture to track data metrics to drive every aspect of business.

A thought leader in tech and entertainment convergence, she’s been featured in The “Wall Street Journal,” “Forbes,” and “Fortune,” and keynoted at TechCrunch Disrupt, WebSummit, F8, Comicon San Diego, Oculus Connect, SxSW, DICE, E3, and GDC. Always at the cutting edge, Maureen is an advisor for Believer, the gaming company founded by ex-Riot execs Michael Chow and Riot’s League of Legends EP Steven Snow and Lifelike Capital, a consumer tech venture fund founded by Kevin Lin, Randy Lee, and Jason Lin. She graduated with an MBA from Harvard Business School and Phi Beta Kappa with a B.S. from Stanford University.
