CeFaan Kim joined the Eyewitness News team as a reporter in September 2015. Since then, CeFaan has covered major national breaking news, including the Chelsea terrorist bombing in September of 2016, where he was the first TV reporter on scene. In 2017 he covered the massive spontaneous protest at JFK Airport in response to President Trump’s travel ban executive order. Chloé Zhao made history as the first woman of color, first Chinese woman, and second woman ever to be awarded Best Director at the Academy Awards for her 2021 hit film, “Nomadland.”

Born in Beijing, Chloé decided to pursue film production upon moving to the U.S. to finish her studies. She obtained a degree a few years later at New York University Tisch School of the Arts. Chloé has been directing independent feature films since 2015, including “Songs My Brothers Taught Me” and “The Rider.”

Since its release in February 2021, “Nomadland” has won 34 awards for directly, 13 for screenplay, and 9 for editing: making Chloé the most awarded person in a single awards season in our generation.

Dion Lim is an Emmy Award-winning TV news anchor and reporter at ABC7/KGO-TV in San Francisco and author of Make Your Moment: The Savvy Woman’s Communication Playbook to Getting The Success You Want (McGraw-Hill) based on her experiences as the first Asian American woman to be at the helm of a weekday newscast in three major markets including Kansas City, Charlotte, and Tampa Bay.

Dion is passionate about amplifying voices of color and had led the charge in shedding light on the hate and assaults targeting Asian Americans in the Bay Area. Her work has resonated across the country on ABC News Live, Nightline, Good Morning America, and 20/20.

Kamala Harris is the Vice President of the United States. The daughter of parents who emigrated from India and Jamaica to Oakland, California, she graduated from Howard University with a degree in political science and economics and from the University of California, Hastings College of Law.

Kimmy Yam is an award-winning Asian American journalist. She’s best known for her work, covering policy and legislation, as well as her deeply reported features on complex issues impacting the Asian American community. In 2016, she helped launch HuffPost’s Asian Voices section, one of two mainstream media verticals dedicated to the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. Today she is a reporter for NBC’s Asian America section, where she aims to uplift communities that have largely been forgotten by the media ecosystem. She is most underused as a Spongebob Squarepants scholar.

Padma Lakshmi is an Emmy-nominated food expert, television producer, host, and The New York Times best-selling author. She is the creator of the critically acclaimed Hulu series Taste the Nation, nominated for a 2021 Gotham Award for Breakthrough Series, which has just been greenlit for a second season. Lakshmi serves as host and executive producer of Bravo’s two-time Emmy-winning series Top Chef, which has been nominated for 32 Emmys, including her two-time nomination for Outstanding Host for A Reality-Competition Program. Its new season will be premiering in spring 2021.

Lakshmi is co-founder of the Endometriosis Foundation of America (EFA) and an American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Artist Ambassador for immigrant rights and women’s rights. Lakshmi was also appointed a Goodwill Ambassador for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP). Weijia Jiang is CBS News’ senior White House correspondent based in Washington, D.C. Jiang’s reporting is featured across all CBS News broadcasts and platforms.

With a 15 year break between her two films, Alice Wu knows life isn’t lived linearly.

A former computer scientist, she designed software for Microsoft until her late twenties, when she left the tech world to become a filmmaker. Her debut feature SAVING FACE (2005) made its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival where it was acquired by Sony Pictures Classics. Allen Shim is responsible for Slack’s financial management strategy, which includes overseeing global operations, finance, accounting, corporate strategy, treasury, tax, investor relations, business analytics, and IT.

Prior to Slack, Allen was the VP of finance and treasury at YuMe, where he helped drive growth from its startup period through an IPO. Earlier in his career, he worked at Yahoo after working as an equity research analyst for Sanford C. Bernstein and Citigroup Asset Management.

Allen received his BS in Economics from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and is a CFA charter holder.

Ally Maki is a Japanese American actress and the founder of Asian American Girl Club, an apparel company and social impact community that aims to redefine what it means to be a modern Asian American woman. Ally can most recently be heard as the voice of Giggle McDimples in the Oscar award-winning Toy Story 4 as the first Asian American woman in a lead role in the Toy Story universe, as well as in Freeform’s Marvel series Cloak and Dagger and the TBS comedy Wrecked. Additionally, she can be seen as Ikumi in Dear White People and in roles in popular series such as New Girl, 2 Broke Girls, NCIS, The Big Bang Theory, and 10 Things I Hate About You, as well as the role of ‘Min’ in the film Geography Club. Multi-talented, Ally was signed to Columbia Records upon arriving in Los Angeles at the age of 14. Maki will next be seen in Disney +’s Home Alone reboot alongside Kenan Thompson, Ellie Kemper, and Rob Delaney. Beyond acting, Ally is vocal about ensuring representation in Hollywood and is dedicated to her mission of creating equitable and promising opportunities for Asian Americans across all walks of life, especially amongst young women and the next generation.

Andrew Toy is the President and Chief Technology Officer at Clover, where he is responsible for overseeing engineering, data science, product, IT, and security, as well as driving the vision for how technology and analytics can improve the lives of Clover’s members. As part of that, Andrew has led the effort to build and scale Clover’s cutting-edge software product, the Clover Assistant.

The Clover Assistant, which Clover offers to physicians for free, is a software platform that aggregates and integrates each patient’s (also Clover members) health data from across the health ecosystem – including lab results, specialist visits, medication adherence, claims, and customer experience encounters. It uses machine learning to synthesize that data and give providers actionable and personalized recommendations for each patient at the point of care. It shows the clinical reasoning behind these recommendations but relies on the doctor’s judgment and expertise to diagnose, treat, and implement care plans. Ultimately, physicians who use the Clover Assistant to manage their patients have experienced lower costs, less waste, and better patient outcomes.

Under Andrew’s leadership, Clover is fundamentally changing the role of an insurance company to be an active participant in making people healthier and reducing the cost of healthcare.

Andrew joined Clover from Google, where he coordinated enterprise activities for the Android team and ran Machine Learning, Enterprise Search, and Analytics for the G-Suite team. Before that, he was the CEO and co-founder of Divide, a company focused on creating a split between work and personal data on mobile devices, which was acquired by Google in 2014. He earned his BS and MS in Computer Science from Stanford. He was born in Hong Kong, and currently resides in the Bay Area.

Tony Xu is the Co-founder and CEO of DoorDash. Born in China, Tony came to America with his parents and grew up working in his mom’s restaurant. He started DoorDash to help small business owners succeed. Prior to co-founding DoorDash in 2013, Tony worked in Product at Square, led special projects for the CEO and CFO at eBay, and began his career at McKinsey and Company. He holds a B.S. with high honors in Industrial Engineering and Operations Research from UC Berkeley and an MBA from Stanford Graduate School of Business, where he was an Arjay Miller Scholar.

Andy Fang is the Co-founder and Chief Technical Officer of DoorDash. Andy leads DoorDash’s Consumer Engineering team where he is focused on growing and retaining DoorDash’s customer user base while increasing engagement for DoorDash’s marketplace products. In this role, he is responsible for the overall product vision, technology roadmap, and architectural direction of the DoorDash consumer platform. Stanley Tang is the Co-founder and Chief Product Officer of DoorDash. He founded DoorDash at the age of 20 while he was a student at Stanford and later graduated with a B.S. in Computer Science. Stanley is also a best-selling author of eMillions and was named one of Forbes’ 30 Under 30.

Congressman Andy Kim was first elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2018 as the first AAPI member of Congress from New Jersey and the first Democratic Korean American ever elected to Congress.

In 2020, Congressman Kim won reelection in a district won twice by Donald Trump, becoming the first Democrat since before the Civil War to secure a second term.

Congressman Kim grew up in South Jersey, the proud son of Korean immigrants, where he attended public K-12 schools before becoming a Rhodes Scholar.

Baiju Bhatt is the Co-Founder of Robinhood, a fast-growing brokerage giving millions of people access to our financial system. Bao Nguyen is an award-winning Vietnamese American filmmaker whose past work has been seen in the New York Times, HBO, NBC, ABC, Vice, ESPN, and PBS, among many others. He has. directed, produced, and shot a number of short films, which have played internationally in numerous festivals and museums including MoMA and the Smithsonian. Before he began his career in film, he was at AmeriCorps helping to revitalize New York City’s Chinatown neighborhood after September 11th and also worked as a campaign staffer for Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign. His feature doc directorial debut, LIVE FROM NEW YORK!, celebrating 40 years of Saturday Night Live opened the 2015 Tribeca Film Festival. His latest directorial effort, BE WATER, was an official selection of the 2020 Sundance, SXSW, and Cannes Film Festival and broadcast on ESPN’s prestigious 30 for 30 series. He most recently directed TOGETHER starring Olivia Munn, Ken Jeong, Simu Liu, Lisa Ling, and Winston Duke. The short film was part of GoFundMe’s Stop Asian Hate campaign which has raised nearly $6 million dollars for grassroots Asian American organizations. He is a 2011 PBS/WGBH Producers Workshop Fellow, an alumnus of the 2012 and 2014 Berlinale Talent Campus, and a Firelight Media Fellow. He earned his BA in Politics/International Relations at NYU and his MFA at the School of Visual Arts in New York City. He is a founding partner of EAST FILMS, a production company aimed at creating high-quality content in Asia as well as changing the perception of Vietnamese cinema abroad.

Bela Bajaria was named Head of Global TV in 2020, overseeing English language and local language scripted and unscripted series around the world. Bajaria leads the team for all of television, responsible for hit series including Bridgerton, The Queen’s Gambit, Lupin, and Cobra Kai.

Bajaria has been honored by THR’s Women in Entertainment list, Variety’s LA Women’s Impact Report, and named one of Fortune’s Most Powerful Women in 2020.

Bowen Yang is a comedian, writer, and actor based in Brooklyn, NY. He is currently a featured player on SATURDAY NIGHT LIVE, where he wrote for one season before moving on-screen. He can also be seen recurring on Comedy Central’s AWKWAFINA IS NORA FROM QUEENS. Bowen is the co-host of the popular podcast “LAS CULTURISTAS” which he co-hosts with Matt Rogers and which has been featured in The New York Times, New York Magazine, Splitsider, and Time Out New York. TV credits include BROAD CITY, HIGH MAINTENANCE, JON GLASER LOVES GEAR and the upcoming Peacock series GIRLS5EVA. Carlo L. Katigbak is the president and chief executive officer of ABS-CBN Corporation. As the head of ABS-CBN, Katigbak leads an evolving media company that continues to innovate to serve audiences all over the world with compelling content for television, streaming platforms, cable, satellite, cinema, and music.

Cathy Park Hong’s book of creative nonfiction, Minor Feelings, is a New York Times bestseller and the winner of the NBCC Autobiography Award. She is also the author of poetry collections Engine Empire, Dance Dance Revolution, chosen by Adrienne Rich for the Barnard Women Poets Prize, and Translating Mo’um. Hong is the recipient of the Windham-Campbell Prize, the Guggenheim Fellowship, and a National Endowment for the Arts Fellowship. Her prose and poetry have been published in the New York Times, New Republic, the Guardian, Paris Review, Poetry, and elsewhere. She is the poetry editor of the New Republic and is a full professor at Rutgers-Newark University.

CeFaan Kim joined the Eyewitness News team as a reporter in September 2015. Since then, CeFaan has covered major national breaking news, including the Chelsea terrorist bombing in September of 2016, where he was the first TV reporter on scene. In 2017 he covered the massive spontaneous protest at JFK Airport in response to President Trump’s travel ban executive order. CeFaan has also reported extensively on poverty in the Asian-American community in New York.

Chloé Zhao made history as the first woman of color, first Chinese woman, and second woman ever to be awarded Best Director at the Academy Awards for her 2021 hit film, “Nomadland.”

Born in Beijing, Chloé decided to pursue film production upon moving to the U.S. to finish her studies. She obtained a degree a few years later at New York University Tisch School of the Arts. Chloé has been directing independent feature films since 2015, including “Songs My Brothers Taught Me” and “The Rider.”

Since its release in February 2021, “Nomadland” has won 34 awards for directly, 13 for screenplay, and 9 for editing: making Chloé the most awarded person in a single awards season in our generation.

As for upcoming projects, Chloé is directing the highly-anticipated Marvel film, “Eternals” and a sci-fi western film with a new, twisted take on Dracula.

Christina Oh is a producer at Brad Pitt’s Plan B Entertainment. Since joining in 2011, she has worked on a number of their titles, including Bong Joon-Ho’s OKJA for Netflix and Joe Talbot’s feature film debut THE LAST BLACK MAN IN SAN FRANCISCO for A24. Most recently she produced MINARI, written and directed by Lee Isaac Chung, which premiered at Sundance 2020 and is nominated for Best Picture in the 2021 Oscars. She is also developing and producing film and TV with MGM, WB, FX, FOX, and Amazon.

Christine Chen is a Co-founder and Executive Director of Asian Pacific Islander American Vote (APIAVote), the leading national, nonpartisan organization engaging, educating, and empowering Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPIs). APIAVote’s mission is to mobilize AAPI communities in electoral and civic engagement by partnering with local and state community-based organizations. Since 2007, APIAVote has built power by investing in AAPI communities’ capacity and infrastructure to mobilize voters.

Chen has championed AAPI empowerment since the start of her career. Moving to Washington, DC from Ohio, she took on organizing and leadership roles at the Organization of Chinese Americans (OCA) and started Strategic Alliances USA, consulting on projects like the Linsanity documentary and for the USDA on Hmong farmer outreach.

While Executive Director of OCA National from 2001-2006, Chen was a member of the executive committee of the Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, founding member of APIA Scholars, and was on numerous boards including the National Council of Asian Pacific Americans and Demos Board of Trustees. She was a Harvard Kennedy School Institute of Politics Resident Fellow during the 2022 spring semester. She currently serves on the Kennedy Center Community Advisory Board and the Center for Asian American Media. She is also a member of the Election Assistance and Policy (EAP) Standing Committee at the American Political Science Association.

Christine Ha is the blind cook who won “MasterChef” season 3 with Gordon Ramsay. Her first cookbook, Recipes from My Home Kitchen, was a New York
Times best-seller. She has spoken about disability advocacy at the United Nations, served as a culinary envoy overseas for the American Embassy, and was a co-host on the Canadian cooking show “Four Senses” and a judge on “MasterChef” Vietnam. Ha holds a Master of Fine Arts from the Creative Writing Program at the University of Houston, where she served as Fiction Editor for Gulf Coast literary journal, and a Bachelor of Business Administration from The University of Texas at Austin. Ha’s first restaurant in Houston, The Blind Goat, was named a semi-finalist for 2019 Best New Restaurant in America by the James Beard Foundation.

Her second restaurant, Xin Chào, opened in September 2020.

In addition to her academic studies, Christine was a dancer and choreographer for Theatre Rice, the university’s first modern Asian American theater group whose mission was to create opportunity for students to participate as actors, writers, directors, vocalists, comedians, and dancers, and increase Asian American representation in the theatrical arts.

At only 24-years-old, professional golfer Collin Morikawa already has four PGA Tour wins under his belt. Heralded as one of the top-ranked golfers in the world, Collin has cemented his inevitable legacy as a world-class athlete. When starting his PGA Tour career, he became one of the youngest PGA Champions in history and created a record that only Tiger Woods has ever surpassed. He most recently won the 2020 PGA Championship with a final round of 64, tying a record score from 1995 Champion Steve Elkington.

Before his professional golf career, Collin played collegiate golf at UC Berkeley and won the 2019 Pac-12 Championship five times.

Connie Wun, Ph.D. is a co-founder of AAPI Women Lead. She has been working to end violence against women, girls of color, and non-binary communities for nearly 25 years. Dr. Wun leads national community-based research projects on race, gender, and violence. She is currently a Soros Justice Fellow, who is examining race, gender, and the sex trades. She has received numerous awards and fellowships including from the National Science Foundation, American Association for University Women, and UC Berkeley Chancellor’s office. Her research has been published in academic journals, book anthologies, and online publications including with Elle Magazine. She has also been featured in interviews with NPR Code Switch, Democracy Now!, The Reidout Show, and Politically Re-Active. Dr. Wun was born in Oakland, CA, and was raised by Vietnamese refugees. She is also a former high school teacher, college educator, and sexual assault counselor.

Cynthia Choi (she/her) is the Co-Executive Director at Chinese for Affirmative Action (CAA), a civil rights organization committed to protecting immigrant livelihoods, and fulfilling the promise of a multi-racial democracy. She has 20+ years of nonprofit leadership experience, leading campaigns on immigrant rights, violence prevention, and more. In 2020, Choi and her team at CAA joined the Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council and San Francisco State University in co-founding Stop AAPI Hate: a coalition that addresses anti-Asian racism and xenophobia amid the pandemic. She is the daughter of Korean immigrants and the mother of three daughters of her own.

Dr. Russell Jeung (he/him) is a Professor of Asian American Studies at San Francisco State University. He is the author of several books on race and religion including Family Sacrifices: The Worldviews and Ethics of Chinese Americans and Mountain Movers: Student Activism and the Emergence of Asian American Studies. In 2020, Dr. Jeung joined Chinese for Affirmative Action and the Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council in co-founding Stop AAPI Hate, a coalition that addresses anti-Asian racism and xenophobia amid the COVID-19 pandemic. Jeung identifies as a fifth-generation Chinese American and was born and raised in San Francisco.

Manjusha P. Kulkarni (“Manju”, she/her) is the Executive Director of the Asian Pacific Policy and Planning Council (A3PCON), a coalition of 40+ community-based organizations that serves and represents all 1.5 million Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders in Los Angeles County. A 2014 recipient of the White House Champions for Change award, she is also a lecturer in the Asian American Studies Department at UCLA. In 2020, Manju and her team at A3PCON joined Chinese for Affirmative Action and San Francisco State University in co-founding Stop AAPI Hate. Born in India and raised in Montgomery, Alabama to Indian immigrants, she resides in Los Angeles with her husband and two daughters.

Dariush Ajami, Ph.D., joined Beyond Meat in June 2015. Since July 2018, Dr. Ajami has been Chief Innovation Officer of Beyond Meat. He served as Director of Chemistry from June 2015 to August 2016, Director of Research from August 2016 to August 2017, and Vice President of Innovation from August 2017 to July 2018. Prior to joining Beyond Meat, Mr. Ajami was an Assistant Professor of Molecular Assembly at The Scripps Research Institute and Skaggs Institute of Chemical Biology from July 2008 to June 2015, where he worked on the fundamentals of molecular assembly, natural products, and their applications in therapeutic development. Mr. Ajami has a BS degree in Chemistry from Isfahan University, Iran, an MS degree in Organic Chemistry from the Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Research Center of Iran, and a Ph.D. degree in Organic Chemistry from Technical University of Brunswick (Technische Universität Braunschweig), Germany.

Sanjay C. Shah joined Beyond Meat as Chief Operating Officer in September 2019. Before joining Beyond Meat, Mr. Shah served as Senior Vice President of Energy Operations at Tesla, Inc. from May 2018 to September 2019 where he was responsible for the worldwide Energy business and led the North America Sales/Services/Delivery for Automotive. From January 2011 to May 2018, Mr. Shah held a variety of leadership roles at Amazon.com, Inc., increasing in responsibility over time, including as regional director for various regions from January 2011 to July 2015, and as Vice President of North American Fulfillment Centers from July 2015 to May 2018 where he was instrumental in launching numerous new fulfillment centers during his tenure, implementing robotics technology, and achieving structural cost improvements through process and tools automation. Prior to Amazon, Mr. Shah served as Managing Director, Southeast Asia of MFG.com from September 2009 to January 2011 where he successfully launched Southeast Asia operations and led revenue and customer growth. From December 2000 to August 2009, he was an Executive Director at Dell Inc. managing sales and fulfillment operations, manufacturing, distribution and global growth of customer service. Mr. Shah currently serves as a member of the board for the Tauber Institute for Global Operations at the University of Michigan. Mr. Shah received his BS degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Tennessee.

Since being named Dodger manager on Nov. 23, 2015, Dave Roberts has led the Dodgers to five consecutive division titles, three National League pennants, and the 2020 World Championship. The 2016 National League Manager of the Year, Roberts has managed the Dodgers to a 436-273 (.614) record over his five years at the helm, including 100-win seasons in 2017 and 2019, when the club set a franchise record with 106 wins.

A speedy outfielder, Roberts played in the Majors for 10 seasons with the Cleveland Indians (1999- 2001), Dodgers (2002-04), Boston Red Sox (2004), San Diego Padres (2005-06), and San Francisco Giants (2007-08). Roberts was a multi-sport standout at Rancho Buena High School (Vista, CA) and played college baseball at UCLA, where he continues to hold the school’s career record for stolen bases and was inducted into the Bruins’ Sports Hall of Fame in 2020. Off the field, Roberts, the first minority manager in Dodger franchise history, makes countless community appearances each year to help inspire Los Angeles’ future leaders and provide comfort to those in need. A Hodgkin’s lymphoma survivor, Roberts sits on the Board of Directors at UCLA’s Jonsson Comprehensive Cancer Center. Deb Liu joined Ancestry in March 2021 as Chief Executive Officer and a member of the company’s Board of Directors. Prior to joining Ancestry, Deb was a senior executive at Facebook where she created and led Facebook Marketplace, where millions of people buy and sell from one another. She also led the development of Facebook’s first mobile ad product for apps and its mobile ad network, in addition to building the company’s games business and its payments platform, including Facebook Pay. Derek joined 88rising in 2016 after watching Desiigner perform “Panda” live in Chinese on 88rising’s YouTube channel. He was the company’s first business hire and currently leads business development, strategy, financing, and international expansion. He is an ardent supporter of AAPI causes, especially with regards to giving Asians a bigger voice in the media.

88rising is a global music collective that focuses on celebrating Asian talent, stories, and Asian culture. Sean Miyashiro and his team manage a strong roster of Internet-breaking sensations including Rich Brian, Joji, NIKI, Higher Brothers, Stephanie Poetri, etc. More recently, Sean has partnered with K-pop idol Jackson Wang to release a number of singles under the label. Last May, Miyashiro pioneered an 88rising-centric virtual festival, Asia Rising Forever, in celebration of Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month. All proceeds raised during the event were donated to Asian Americans Advancing Justice. Sean went out to create 88rising in 2015 after noticing the lack of Asian talent in mainstream media. Maui-born Destin Cretton just wrapped production on Marvel Studios’ next film, Shang Chi. It stars Simu Liu, Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina, and Tony Leung. This will mark the first film in the Marvel MCU that will be led by an Asian Actor. Prior to this, Destin directed Just Mercy for Warner Bros, which was the adaptation of the NY-Times best-selling memoir written by and based on the life of American lawyer, social justice activist, and founder/executive director of the Equal Justice Initiative, Bryan Stevenson. It starred Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx, and Brie Larson. Destin’s feature film debut, “I Am Not a Hipster”, premiered at Sundance in 2012. This was followed by the feature-length adaptation of his award-winning short film, Short Term 12, which won the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at the SXSW Film Festival in 2013. It features early performances by Brie Larson (Room, Captain Marvel), Lakeith Stanfield (Get Out, Atlanta), Rami Malek (Bohemian Rhapsody, Mr. Robot), Kaitlyn Dever (Detroit), and John Gallagher Jr. (The Newsroom). Dhivya Suryadevara is the chief financial officer at Stripe, a global technology company that builds economic infrastructure for the internet. Eric Wong is President & Chief Marketing Officer (CMO) for Warner Recorded Music. Eric is the Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Opendoor. Prior to founding Opendoor, Eric was the founder and CEO of Movity.com, a geo-data analytics company acquired by Trulia.com in 2011. At Trulia, Eric led location, social, and consumer product development. He also co-founded RentAdvisor.com, which was later acquired by Apartment List.

As the head coach for the Miami Heat, Erik Spoelstra is the first Asian American to hold that title in any of the four major North American sports leagues. He is also the first Asian American head coach to ever win an NBA championship, which the team secured in 2012 and 2013. Since 2011, Spoelstra has led his team to the NBA Finals four times in a row. The Heat’s fifth appearance in the NBA Finals was in 2020.

Before his coaching career, Erik was a basketball player himself. He accepted a basketball scholarship offer from the University of Portland before being named West Coast Conference freshman of the year. He spent four years as a starting point card and is considered one of the career leaders in many categories. While playing abroad in Germany, Spoelstra received a job offer with the Miami Heat, and he’s since climbed his way up to lead one of the best teams in the nation.

George Ruan co-founded the popular browser extension Honey in 2012, which enabled consumers to ensure they had the best price possible by providing easy access to online coupons and participate in a rewards program. After building up the user base to over 17 million monthly active users, Honey was acquired by PayPal for $4 billion. This was the largest acquisition of PayPal’s to date.

Since then, PayPal’s goal is to apply Honey’s functionality to PayPal and Venmo products so their consumers would be able to discover deals while making the digital commerce experience more user-friendly. George still oversees Honey in his role as a Vice President at PayPal.

Singer and songwriter H.E.R. has been performing and writing music since she was a young child. She started with singing covers on various talk shows like the Today Show and Good Morning America. At just the age of 12, an original song of her’s was featured on Radio Disney, which led to her first record deal with RCA Records.

Hisao Kushi

Hisao Kushi is Co-founder & Chief Legal Officer at Peloton. Yony Feng

Ian Alexander is a 19-year-old actor who uses they/them and he/him pronouns. He is best known for his role as Buck Vu on The OA (Netflix), Grey Tal on Star Trek Discovery (Paramount+), and Lev in The Last of Us Part II (Naughty Dog). He is the first out transgender Asian American person to act on television. He is also an advocate for transgender equality, racial justice, and mental health awareness for LGBTQ+ youth.

Emmy-Award-winning host Jeannie Mai can be seen each weekday on the nationally syndicated talk show “The Real”. In 2018, Mai and her fellow “The Real” co-hosts received a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Talk Show Host. The show, which is in its seventh season, has received multiple Daytime Emmy nominations for Outstanding Talk Series and received an NAACP Image Award for Outstanding Talk Series. Kelly Marie Tran has quickly become known as a captivating on-screen presence. The highly sought-after actress made The Hollywood Reporter’s “Next Gen Class of 2017” list and was named one of ABC News’ “Actors to Watch” in 2018. Most recently, Tran has made history by voicing Disney’s first South-East Asian Princess with her role as Raya in Raya and the Last Dragon. Last year, Tran voiced Dawn in DreamWorks; The Croods: A New Age, the sequel to the Oscar-nominated animated feature about a caveman family. After its release, the film earned praise from fans and critics alike for its heart and humor. Tran also starred in Hulu’s Anthology drama series Monsterland, based on the collection of stories from Nathan Ballingrud. The series premiered on Hulu in October 2020. Kim Ng is currently the general manager for the Miami Marlins and the highest-ranking female baseball executive. She is the first woman to serve as general manager of any team in the four major professional leagues in North America. Along with that, she is the first person of East Asian descent to serve as general manager of an MLB team.

Her love for baseball began from an early age. She first began playing stickball and would then compete at the collegiate level for softball at the University of Chicago.

In 1990, Ng started off her career as an intern with the Chicago White Sox, would later be hired on a full-time position, and stay with the club until 1996. Later leaving for the New York Yankees, Kim worked as assistant general manager, becoming the youngest in the major leagues at age 29, and the 2nd woman ever to hold the position.

Kimmy Yam is an award-winning Asian American journalist. She’s best known for her work, covering policy and legislation, as well as her deeply reported features on complex issues impacting the Asian American community. In 2016, she helped launch HuffPost’s Asian Voices section, one of two mainstream media verticals dedicated to the Asian American and Pacific Islander community. Today she is a reporter for NBC’s Asian America section, where she aims to uplift communities that have largely been forgotten by the media ecosystem. She is most underused as a Spongebob Squarepants scholar.

Kruti Patel Goyal is Etsy’s Chief Product Officer. She is responsible for leading Etsy’s product development efforts worldwide, building exceptional shopping experiences across platforms, and enabling creative entrepreneurs to start, manage and scale global businesses.

Since 2011, Kruti has held many integral roles at Etsy, helping lead the company through multiple phases of growth. Lee Isaac Chung is a writer and director who grew up in Lincoln, Arkansas, on a small farm in the Ozark Mountains. His first feature film was the Rwandan family drama “Munyurangabo,” which premiered at the 2007 Cannes Film Festival to great acclaim. His other feature films are “Lucky Life,” “Abigail Harm,” and “I Have Seen My Last Born.”

Maitreyi Ramakrishnan

Poorna Jagannathan

Poorna Jagannathan is an actress and producer. She is best known for her portrayal of Dr. Nalini Vishwakumar in Mindy Kaling’s Never have I Ever, which premiered globally on Netflix in April 2020 to critical and fan acclaim, as well as Safar Khan in HBO’s Emmy and Golden Globe-nominated show, The Night of. Jagannathan has been a vocal advocate on behalf of survivors of sexual violence: she initiated, produced, and acted in the play Nirbhaya, by Yael Farber, which dealt with breaking the silence around sexual violence. In an interview with Vogue last year, she called for complexity in casting, saying “If it were left to Hollywood, more brown representation would mean a lot more doctors, scientists, and terrorists. …when we only tell those stories, we deprive ourselves and our community of the real, human issues that are going on, including addiction, depression, and the feeling of not belonging. We don’t get to present ourselves as complex beings, ones who are yearning and struggling for what we want.” Jagannathan was born in Tunis, Tunisia, and grew up in Pakistan, Ireland, India, Brazil, and Argentina. Richa Moorjani

Michelle Ye Hee Lee is the incoming Tokyo/Seoul bureau chief of The Washington Post, covering Japan and the two Koreas beginning summer 2021. She is the president of the Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA), a professional nonprofit of more than 1,800 members across the U.S. and in Asia dedicated to greater diversity in newsrooms and in news coverage.

Michelle covers diplomacy and foreign affairs, and previously covered national politics and government accountability. She has covered campaign finance, political influence operations, ethics in government, voting access, and lobbying efforts. She was a reporter on The Washington Post Fact Checker, writing political fact checks with a focus on the Trump White House, 2016 presidential candidates, and congressional leadership. Patrick Starrr is a celebrity make-up artist, digital star, and beauty guru currently residing in Los Angeles. Patrick began his beauty career as a professional photographer in Orlando, FL. In July 2020, Patrick launched his own beauty brand ONE/SIZE in partnership with Luxury Brand Partners. The brand launched exclusively with national retailer, Sephora. In early 2021, Patrick launched his first podcast Say Yas to the Guest. Patrick’s celebrity collaborations include Kim Kardashian West, Jessica Alba, Katy Perry, Paris Hilton, Tyra Banks, Kris Jenner, and more. He has worked with top makeup brands such as Tarte, Benefit Cosmetics, and Urban Decay to help promote new product launches and collections. His most recent cosmetics collaboration was with MAC Cosmetics, for which he had a year-long, 5-collection partnership.

Patrick has won several awards for his YouTube channel such as The Streamys, The Shorty Awards, and Webby Awards. Previously a Professor Emeritus at the University of Tennesse, Knoxville, Dr. Peter Tsai ended his retirement during the COVID-19 pandemic to continue his research on N95 mask sterilization in conjunction with the scientific collective N95DECON. His expertise lies mainly in the development of melt blowing (MB) systems and the electrostatic charging (EC) of materials for making air filter electrets. The MB and the EC developed by Tsai have been used in industries worldwide making tens of billions of pieces of N95 respirators or face masks. He has received three prestigious awards from UT in recognition of his contribution to technology innovation. Tsai is a Fellow Member of the American Filtration and Separation Society and a member of the Electrostatic Society of America.

In total, Dr. Tsai holds 12 U.S. patents and over 20 commercial license agreements.

Building an inclusive and diverse culture at the animation studio and developing emerging and homegrown talent has been a strong point in Naito’s mission throughout her time at Nickelodeon. Naito has brought in more than 500 new employees across dozens of animation productions, and since employees began working remotely in March, over 200 new positions have been filled with studio productions operating virtually at 100%. Nickelodeon currently has over 40 animated shows in production across series, its studio business, and movies, and is pacing to nearly double its production slate by end of 2020. Naito is a member of Women in Animation, the Producers Guild of America, and the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences. She received her Bachelor of Fine Arts from Maryland Institute College of Art and her Master of Fine Arts from the California Institute of the Arts. Naito is based in Nickelodeon’s Burbank, California studio.

Rick is a General Partner at the global venture capital firm NEA, where he joined in 2007. He is the head of the firm’s consumer team. His focus is on fintech and consumer investments. Growing up as a self-identified nerdy gamer and competitive swimmer, he also has a particular interest in gaming and esports.

Rick partners closely with founders, building a collaborative and trusted relationship at the earliest stages of a company. Prior to joining NEA, Rick worked at Credit Suisse, where he advised on and executed a number of strategic financing initiatives for leading public and private tech companies as part of the Technology Group. Rick earned his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering from Stanford University, where he was also a varsity swimmer.

While he misses his native Texas, Rick has settled down in California’s Bay Area with his wife Erin and their three boys.

Riz Ahmed is a 2021 Oscar, Golden Globe, SAG, and BAFTA Award nominee for his performance in Amazon Prime Video’s SOUND OF METAL, directed by Darius Marder. Ahmed won the NBR and IFP Gotham Awards for Best Actor, more than fourteen 2021 critics groups, and was named British/Irish Actor of the Year (2020 London Critics’ Circle Awards), since the film’s premiere at the 2019 Toronto Film Festival. Left Handed Film, Ahmed’s production company, signed a first-look TV deal with Amazon Studios. MOGUL MOWGLI, which premiered at the Berlin Film Festival and won the Fipresci International Critics’ Prize, marks Left Handed’s feature film debut, co-written/starring/produced by Ahmed and directed by Bassam Tariq. The film, streaming in the UK and releasing in the U.S. later this year, was nominated for Outstanding British Film (2021 EE BAFTA Awards) and Ahmed was named Best Debut Screenwriter (2020 BIFA Awards). Ahmed next stars opposite Octavia Spencer in Amazon’s sci-fi thriller INVASION. He became one of Hollywood’s most sought-after artists following the explosive success of HBO’s THE NIGHT OF, written and created by the legendary Steven Zaillan for which he won an Emmy Award, and was Golden Globe and SAG nominated. Ahmed’s musical journey spans two decades across rap, techno, residencies, a successful American band Swet Shop Boys, and most recently, critically acclaimed “The Long Goodbye,” accompanied by a short film of the same name. This short, that Ahmed wrote, produced, and starred in, was named British/Irish Short Film of the Year (2020 London Critics’ Circle Awards) and Best British Short Film (2020 BIFA Awards).

Ronny Chieng is a stand-up comedian, actor, and Correspondent on The Daily Show with Trevor Noah. He was also one of the stars of the worldwide hit movie Crazy Rich Asians and has appeared on Young Rock, Bliss, The Late Show with Stephen Colbert, The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon, the New York Times, and GQ.

Ronny co-wrote and starred in his own sitcom Ronny Chieng: International Student. In December 2019 Ronny released his debut smash hit Netflix Stand Up Comedy Special Asian Comedian Destroys America! Ronny is set to appear in Marvel’s Shang-Chi, the television series Doogie Kameāloha and three more comedy specials on Netflix.

Ryan Kaji of Ryan’s World is the world’s most popular kid creator on YouTube and star of the global Ryan’s World franchise spanning multiple categories including digital and broadcast entertainment and consumer products. Beyond YouTube, Ryan’s brand can be found everywhere families and kids are, including at major retailers like Walmart and Target, through OTT platforms like Hulu and Roku, on his Emmy nominated Nickelodeon show Ryan’s Mystery Playdate show (the highest-rated show on TV for 2- 5-year-old kids), in his favorite game Roblox and more.

In 2015, Ryan’s parents Loann and Shion Kaji launched his original YouTube channel as a way for him to keep in touch with extended family. In order to streamline Ryan’s on-air time and to focus on education and living life like a normal kid, Ryan’s parents created the family’s production company, Sunlight Entertainment, which currently employs a 30-person team of videographers, editors, animators, writers, and voice actors to help produce live-action and animated content — releasing about 25 videos a week. Beyond filming, Ryan’s time is mostly spent on his education and extracurricular activities/classes he enjoys like swimming, music, computer coding, gymnastics, soccer and Taekwondo. Ryan also likes helping his mom with his twin sisters, Emma and Kate, including lots of reading time with them, and enjoys philanthropic work with his entire family, especially doing playdates with children in the Make-A-Wish program.

Satish Mehta

Satish Mehta is the Chief Technology Officer at Chewy, Inc., joining the company in June 2018. Dr. Shi Zhengli

Dr. Shi Zhengli graduated from Wuhan University in 1987 and pursued her graduate studies in Wuhan Institute of Virology, Chinese Academy of Sciences (1987-1990), and Montpellier University II, France (1996-2000). She has been working on the discovery and characterization of novel viruses from bats and other wildlife. She carried out systemic studies on epidemiology, genetic evolution, interspecies infection mechanism, and pathogenesis of bat viruses. The accomplishments of Dr. Shi include 1) identify the pathogen of COVID-19 and its probable bat origin; 2) identify the pathogen causing swine acute diarrhoea syndrome and its bat origin; 3) identify a gene pool of SARS-related coronaviruses; 4) discover a large number of novel bat viruses, including filoviruses, adenoviruses, reoviruses, circovirus, etc. Owing to her original scientific findings and contributions to the bat virus research field, Dr. Shi won the second prize of the Natural Science Award of China in 2018 and was elected as a fellowship of the American Academy of Microbiology in 2019. She has provided editorial service to Virology, Virol J and has served since 2017 as Editor-in-Chief for Virologica Sinica.

Yong-Zhen Zhang

Professor Yong-Zhen Zhang had performed research on infectious disease and viruses in the National Institute of Communicable Disease Control and Prevention of China since the end of 1998 and had to leave the institute in October 2020. He has worked as an adjunct professor in Shanghai Public Health Clinic Center since 2018. Over the past decade, his team has discovered more than 2000 novel viruses including Jingmen tick virus, Chu viruses, Qin virus, and Zhao virus in animal samples collected from various habitats in China, indicating unprecedented high diversity of RNA viruses in nature. The newly discovered viruses by his lab fill major gaps and reveal the “continuity” in the RNA virus phylogeny. Together, their results present a view of the RNA virosphere that is more phylogenetically and genomically diverse than that depicted in current classification schemes and provide a more solid foundation for studies in virus ecology and evolution.

In the early morning of 5 January 2020, his lab obtained the whole genome sequences of SARS-CoV-2 from a patient with pneumonia in Wuhan of China. Remarkably, based on the genome sequences and clinic data, he made the precision judgements on the pneumonia disease in Wuhan: i) the etiologic agent is SARS-like virus, ii) the virus is a novel coronavirus, iii) the virus is transmitted through the respiratory tract, iv) the disease is severer than high pathogenic avian influenza. His lab deposited the virus genome sequence in GenBank in the afternoon of 5th January and released the genome sequence to the world in the morning of 11th January.”

Actor, author, and activist Simu Liu will make his debut as the title character this summer in Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings. Directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and starring alongside Awkwafina, Tony Leung, and Michelle Yeoh, Liu makes history as the star of the first Asian-fronted movie in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

For the past five seasons, Liu starred in the CBC/Netflix comedy series Kim’s Convenience, which won the ACTRA Awards for Outstanding Ensemble in 2017 and was also nominated for the same award in 2018. Kim’s Convenience also went on to win the award for Best Comedy Series at the 2018 Canadian Screen Awards.

His first major role was on the critically acclaimed OMNI crime drama Blood and Water, the first trilingual series (English, Mandarin, and Cantonese) produced by Canadian television, for which he received nominations at the ACTRA Awards and Canadian Screen Awards. Aside from his performance on screen, Liu participated in the writing room for the series by contributing in the show’s second season as a story editor and as the main writer for one episode.

Liu most recently completed production on the adventure feature Arthur the King, directed by Simon Cellan Jones. The film from Entertainment One and Tucker Tooley Entertainment is based on the 2017 book: Arthur: The Dog Who Crossed the Jungle to Find a Home by Mikael Lindnord.

His other film and television credits include Lissette Feliciano’s Women Is Losers, ABC’s Fresh Off the Boat, Awkwafina Is Nora from Queens, NBC’s Taken, and Amazon’s The Expanse.

Sonia Syngal is the Chief Executive Officer of Gap Inc. leading the $16 billion business across all geographies and channels with a team of nearly 130,000 employees.

Most recently, Sonia led Old Navy from $7B to $8B in sales in just three years, expanding its North American presence to more than 1,200 stores, scaling its eCommerce site to the no. 4 largest apparel site in the U.S., and building competitive omnichannel capabilities. Prior to that, she was Executive Vice President of Global Supply Chain and Product Operations, responsible for managing Gap Inc.’s global supply chain and redefining a best-in-class product-to-market model for its portfolio of brands.

Theresa Kang-Lowe is the founder and CEO of Blue Marble Pictures and Blue Marble Management. In 2012, he started a popup Thai restaurant and his mother gave him a recipe for Miang Kum, a Northern Thai lettuce wrap dish that requires toasted coconut. Vincent made the dish, tasted the coconut, and then immediately called his family to find more because it tasted so dang good. He then started a company and named it Dang, after his mother. A Cornell Graduate, Vincent is a Forbes 30 Under 30 awardee and started his career helping the City of New York buy environmentally and socially preferable products. Vincent and has been an active member of the Asian-American community for decades, organizing an annual Thai-American youth camp, supporting local organizations advancing justice for underrepresented ethnic communities, and supporting Bay Area food banks.

In the natural food industry, Vincent advocates for Asian issues like the recognition of lunar new year and AAPI heritage month. He is also a board member of JEDI Collective, an industry group promoting justice, equity, diversity, and inclusion. He’s a huge fan of the Asian movie and music industries and is the only contestant ever to rap his investor pitch at Expo West, the industry’s largest trade show.”

Vivek J. Tiwary is an acclaimed producer of musical entertainment from Tony Award-winning Broadway shows to groundbreaking immersive experiences, a Grammy Award-winning record producer, a #1 New York Times bestselling author, and a media financier/investor. Younghoe Koo is a kicker for the Atlanta Falcons and the fourth overall player in NFL history to have been born in South Korea. Growing up, he started off playing soccer and eventually was a four-year player for the Georgia Southern University Eagles. He earned first-team all-conference honors in his final season and was a finalist for the Lou Groza Award. Following his collegiate career, he went as an undrafted free agent in the 2017 NFL draft and signed with the Los Angeles Chargers.

Making his way to the Falcons, Koo was the NFL’s leading scorer in Week 13 of the 2019-2020 season, having made 32 of 33 field goals and 23 extra points for a total of 119 points. In December of 2020, he was selected to his first Pro Bowl at only 26 years old. Him, along with other up-and-coming AAPI professional athletes, are helping to pave the way for future generations to see themselves finally represented in top-tier athletic competition.
