Born and raised in Chengdu, China, Weiting Liu is a Tomatometer®-approved critic, journalist, and film festival programmer based in NYC.

She is the Co-editor of the Brooklyn Rail’s Film section, where she conducts high-profile filmmaker interviews and commissions film criticism and reporting. She is committed to expanding the RAIL’s coverage of AAPI storytellers––by AAPI journalists––while preserving the publication’s legacy of advocating for independent cinema and the arts. Her bylines have also appeared in prestigious publications including Empire, Little White Lies, Common Sense Media, and Joysauce.

Alongside her journalistic and editorial endeavors, Liu is also a programmer for CineCina, a film festival based in NYC and dedicated to presenting Chinese-language and pan-Asian cinema. Her multidisciplinary work explores Asian diasporic entertainment and the intersections of culture, identity, and representation. She sees journalism as a form of bridge-building shaped by the global AAPI community’s multidimensional experiences, perspectives, and collective vision.
