Roots Studio is reimagining cultural sustainability onto new formats through IP licensing for rural and Indigenous communities. They lead the largest Cultural Arts Exchange, a digital and physical archive of over 20,000 endangered art and crafts, traceable back to every artist across a portfolio of 42 communities globally. Collections and partnerships include Patagonia, Cartier Women’s Initiative, Chanel Foundation, REI, Echoing Green, amongst others, with over 5.1 million products in distribution over multiple seasons, increasing their artists’ annual income by 23% – 300%. This increased income – generated through Indigenous art and sustainability – not only preserves and amplifies their voices, but also allows communities to steward the biodiverse lands they reside on. Roots Studio has been featured in The Business of Fashion as “The Antidote to Cultural Appropriation”, Vogue Business 100 “Champions for Change,” and Forbes Under 30.
