Billionaire Masayoshi Son founded Softbank, a Japanese holding conglomerate, in 1981 and has continued to serve as its chairman & CEO. He was an early investor in many internet firms, such as Yahoo! and Alibaba, of which SoftBank reportedly owns nearly 30%. SoftBank’s investment vehicle, the $100 billion Vision Fund, invests in emerging technologies like artificial intelligence and robotics as well as companies aimed at revolutionizing industries such as real estate, transportation, and retail. Masayoshi plans to raise $100 billion for a new fund every few years, investing about $50 billion a year in startups.
