Justin Chang

Film Critic, Los Angeles Times & NPR’s “Fresh Air”

Justin Chang has been a film critic for the Los Angeles Times since 2016 and also reviews movies each for NPR’s Fresh Air. He was previously chief film critic at Variety. He is the author of “FilmCraft: Editing,” a 2011 book of interviews with 17 of the world’s top film editors. He has twice been named film critic of the year at the Los Angeles Press Club’s National Arts and Entertainment Journalism Awards, and in 2014 he received the inaugural Roger Ebert Award from the African-American Film Critics Association. Chang serves as chair of the National Society of Film Critics and secretary of the Los Angeles Film Critics Association. He holds a degree in journalism from the University of Southern California.
