Hock Tan is the President and CEO of Broadcom Inc., a global leader in semiconductor and infrastructure software solutions. Born in Penang, Malaysia, Tan moved to the United States in 1971 on a scholarship to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), where he earned both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mechanical engineering. He later obtained an MBA from Harvard Business School in 1979. Tan’s career spans various industries and leadership roles. He held senior positions at General Motors and PepsiCo before serving as Vice President of Finance at Commodore International. He then led Integrated Circuit Systems (ICS) as CEO, overseeing its sale to Integrated Device Technology. In 2006, Tan became CEO of Avago Technologies, which acquired Broadcom Corporation in 2015, leading to the formation of Broadcom Inc. Under Tan’s leadership, Broadcom has grown significantly through strategic acquisitions, including LSI, Brocade, and a $61 billion acquisition of VMware in 2023. In 2024, Tan joined the board of directors at Meta Platforms, bringing his extensive experience in technology and business strategy to the company.
