Helen Chiang is the Chief Operating Officer of Game Content and Studios at Xbox. She previously served as the Head of Minecraft as well. Under Helen’s leadership, Minecraft has seen record growth, was inducted into the World Video Game Hall of Fame, and was selected as Polygon’s Best Game of the Decade (2010-2019). As a longtime Xbox veteran, Helen has been a strategic leader in many aspects of the Xbox business: setting the foundation for the Xbox Live business as one of the original team members, leading the Xbox Live Arcade team through a business transformation, and navigating Microsoft’s acquisition of Mojang Studios. She is a strong advocate and champion for women in games and is passionate about helping girls see themselves in technology careers.
Helen holds a dual bachelor’s degree in biomedical engineering and computer science from Johns Hopkins University and an MBA from The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania. In her free time, Helen enjoys taking on new athletic challenges and has summited Mt. Kilimanjaro, ran the Boston marathon alongside Will Ferrell, and climbed Mt. Rainier for charity. She lives in the greater Seattle area with her husband and two daughters, with whom she plays Minecraft in creative mode.
