Gene Luen Yang
Gene Luen Yang is an American cartoonist. He is a frequent lecturer on the subjects of graphic novels and comics, at comic book conventions and universities, schools, and libraries. In addition, he was the Director of Information Services and taught computer science at Bishop O’Dowd High School in Oakland, California. In 2012, Yang joined the faculty at Hamline University, as a part of the Low-Residency Master of Fine Arts in Writing for Children and Young Adults (MFAC) program. In 2016, the U.S. Library of Congress named him Ambassador for Young People’s Literature. That year he became the third graphic novelist, alongside Lauren Redniss, to receive a MacArthur Fellowship.

Kelvin Yu
Kelvin Yu is an actor, producer, and Emmy-winning writer. He is the Series Creator and Showrunner of the upcoming Disney Plus show AMERICAN BORN CHINESE as well as a writer and Executive Producer for FOX’s long-running animated series BOB’S BURGERS. As a performer, he has appeared in over 60 television series and films, including MASTER OF NONE, MILK, WONDER WOMAN 1984, and THE AFTERPARTY.

Destin Daniel Cretton
Maui-born Destin Cretton, is fresh off the release of Marvel Studios’ film, Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings, starring Simu Liu, Michelle Yeoh, Awkwafina, and Tony Leung. This is the first film in the MCU that is led by an Asian actor, and mostly Asian cast. Destin’s feature film debut, “I Am Not a Hipster”, premiered at Sundance in 2012. And was followed by Short Term 12, which won the Grand Jury Prize and Audience Award at the SXSW Film Festival in 2013, featuring early performances by Brie Larson, Lakeith Stanfield, Rami Malek, Kaitlyn Dever, and John Gallagher Jr. His third feature, an adaptation of the NY Times best-selling memoir, The Glass Castle, starred Brie Larson, Woody Harrelson, and Naomi Watts and was released in 2016 by Lionsgate. Following this, Destin directed Just Mercy for Warner Bros, the adaptation of the NY-Times best-selling memoir by civil rights attorney Bryan Stevenson. The film starred Michael B. Jordan, Jamie Foxx and Brie Larson. He is currently in post-production for a new Disney+ series, American Born Chinese based on the graphic novel by Gene Luen Yang, starring Ben Wang, Michelle Yeoh, Daniel Wu and Ng Chin Han.

Melvin Mar
Melvin Mar is a television and film producer. He and director Jake Kasdan have a deal at Twentieth Century Fox Television developing comedies and dramas for cable and network television. Mar has produced the films The TV Set, Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story, Bad Teacher,andSex Tape. His television credits include “New Girl,” “Fresh Off the Boat,” “The Grinder,” and “Weird Loners.” He executive produced the upcoming Twentieth Century Fox pilot “Speechless” and acted in “Walk Hard” and “Bad Teacher.” Mar began his career as an intern at Kopelson Entertainment, got his first job at Dreamworks SKG, and then moved to Scott Rudin Productions.
