Joanne Tabellija-Murphy joined Walmart in 2013 and is responsible for building partnerships and strategies that advance stakeholder advocacy, and transform social change building trust in communities where the company’s businesses are located. As an external affairs professional on key socio-economic issues, she grows the business in areas such as community affairs and public affairs, internal policy and public policy issues, diverse societal and employee issues. She develops strategies, builds coalitions and spearheads measurable pathways to do business with diverse stakeholders and key influencers. She is a consultant for the company, lending expertise in growing diverse and emerging customer bases. Joanne is an advisor on the Walmart Trust and Transparency steering committee.
In support of Walmart external diverse stakeholders, Joanne created and leads the newly launched LeadHERship Coalition. The Coalition, in partnership with Working Mother, is an alliance of companies and nonprofits committed to addressing issues that impede diverse women’s progress. The national Coalition, whose members are making significant impact to lift women’s voices, is focused on collaborating,
Joanne holds seats on several board of directors and advisory boards including WIPP, Enterprising Women Magazine, OCA National and Gold House Book Club, and has held board seats as chair and director for many non-profits and not-for-profits. Most recently, she is Chair of the OCA National Business Advisory Council, leading its strategy focused on shared value for its members and the organization. She is often lauded by civic and nonprofit leaders for her strategic thinking and communications prowess, serving as a role model to many Walmart associates.
She has held prior roles in corporate and public service including Brand Marketing, Marketing, Supplier Diversity, Training/Development, Court Magistrate and Finance. Previous employers include MillerCoors, Coors Brewing Company, McKesson, The Baily Company/Arby’s, The InnBetween, City of Florence/State of Oregon.
