Kamala Harris

Vice President of the United States of America

Kamala Harris is the Vice President of the United States. The daughter of parents who emigrated from India and Jamaica to Oakland, California, she graduated from Howard University with a degree in political science and economics and from the University of California, Hastings College of Law.

 

Before making her way to the White House, Kamala was elected District Attorney of San Francisco and later on California’s Attorney General, where she oversaw the largest state justice department in the United States. In 2017, she was sworn into the United States Senate and was a member of the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee, the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, and the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works.

 

She is the first woman, the first Black American, the first South Asian American to be elected Vice President, and the highest-ranking female official in United States history.
