Joseph Hernandez

Joseph Hernandez is the Director of Culture for Bon Appétit and Epicurious, where he leads culture, restaurant, travel, and lifestyle coverage. He previously served as the brands’ research director before moving to The Philadelphia Inquirer as a senior editor.

An adjunct professor at CUNY’s Craig Newmark Graduate School of Journalism where he teaches the craft of journalism, Joseph has spent his career covering food, wine, and culture for The Chicago Tribune, SevenFifty Daily, Thrillist, and Wine Enthusiast. His work also appears in Eater and Condé Nast Traveler.

Joseph is a prior fellow of both The Poynter Institute’s Leadership Academy and The National Critics Institute, and holds multiple wine certifications, including an honorary knighthood with the Brotherhood of Port Winemakers. He previously served as vice-chair for the James Beard Awards Restaurant and Chefs committee.
