Rachel Kondo, Emily Yoshida, Maegan Houang & Justin Marks

Rachel Kondo is an American writer who was born and raised in Maui. In 2019, her story “Girl of Few Seasons” was included in The O. Henry Prize Stories and selected as a juror favorite by Elizabeth Strout. Along with Justin Marks, Kondo co-created the television production of Shōgun (FX) adapted from the novel by James Clavell.

Emily Yoshida was previously a writer for Vulture and New York Magazine. Now as her first TV job ever, Yoshida is credited as a staff writer of Shōgun (FX) and helped adapt Clavell’s novel for the screen.

Maegan Houang is a writer/director who has written on TV shows such as Counterpart (Starz), Shōgun (FX), and The Sympathizer (HBO). Her short film Astonishing Little Feet played at MoMA, the Hammer Museum, Palm Springs Short Fest and received a Vimeo Staff Pick. She has also directed music videos for artists such as Mitski, Vagabon, Charly Bliss, Hana Vu, Chastity Belt and Skylar Spence.

Justin Marks is a screenwriter, television creator and executive producer. Marks is the Academy Award®-nominated co-writer of Top Gun: Maverick (Paramount) and wrote the hit film The Jungle Book (Disney) which earned nearly $1 billion in worldwide box office sales. Marks was the creator and showrunner of Counterpart (Starz) which ran for two seasons and serves as the co-creator and showrunner of Shōgun (FX).
