Iman Vellani is receiving the New Gold Award, in addition to her A100 honor, for a rising leader who will redefine canon for the Asian Pacific community.
Vellani recently made her acting debut in Disney+’s critically acclaimed TV mini-series MS. MARVEL as Kamala Khan/Ms. Marvel. MS. MARVEL won the Golden Tomato Award for being the Best-Reviewed Series of 2022 as well as the Favorite Kids TV Show award at the 2023 Kid’s Choice Awards. Following her debut in MS. MARVEL, Iman took part in A FAN’S GUIDE TO MS. MARVEL and ASSEMBLED: THE MAKING OF MS. MARVEL, two documentaries about the production of the series. In November 2023, she will be seen reprising the role in the film THE MARVELS alongside Brie Larson, Teyonah Parris and Samuel L. Jackson. While playing Ms. Marvel, Iman was nominated for Best Actress in a Superhero Series at the 2023 Critics’ Choice Super Awards, won Best Performance by a Younger Actor in a Streaming Series at the 2022 Academy of Science Fiction, Fantasy, & Horror Films, and won the Best TV Actress Jury Prize award at the 2022 LifeArt Festival. In May 2023, Iman will be honored at the 2nd annual Gold House Gala by receiving the first-ever New Gold Award. She is a Canadian actress from Markham, Ontario who is thrilled to be the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s first Muslim superhero character!
